Privacy Policy

Plain-English summary: Your camera feed is processed entirely on your device. We never see, store, or upload your video unless you explicitly choose to use cloud sync. We collect the bare minimum we need to keep the service running, and we never sell your data.

1. Who we are

Time Traveler Vlog ("we", "our", "the service") is operated by the team at timevlogger.com. For any privacy question or request, reach us at contact@timevlogger.com.

2. Camera, microphone, and motion sensors

The whole point of the app is to put you inside a historical scene. To do that, your browser asks for permission to use your camera, microphone, and (on supported phones) device motion sensors.

Where the processing happens

• Selfie segmentation (the AI green-screen) runs on your device using Google's MediaPipe models. The video frames are never sent to our servers.
• Recording is captured by your browser's built-in MediaRecorder and written straight to your device's storage.
• Motion sensors are used solely to pan the historical scene as you turn your phone. We do not log accelerometer or gyroscope readings.

If you turn on cloud sync

When (and only when) you tap "Save to Cloud", your recording is uploaded to our hosting provider, encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. You can delete a cloud recording at any time from the My Vlogs page; deletion is immediate.

3. What we collect (and what we don't)

If you use the free app without an account

• Anonymous, aggregated page-view counts (via a privacy-respecting analytics provider).
• A small number of cookies / localStorage flags so that the cookie banner and age-gate don't re-appear every visit.
• Basic server logs (IP address, browser user-agent) kept for 14 days for security and abuse prevention.

If you create an account

• Your email address, display name, and (if you used Google sign-in) your Google profile photo.
• Your subscription status (handled by Stripe — we never see your card number).
• Metadata about each saved recording (era, duration, timestamp). The recording video itself only leaves your device if you've opted into cloud sync.

What we never collect

• Raw camera frames.
• Microphone audio outside of an explicit recording.
• Contact list, address book, location, or anything else outside the scope of vlogging.

4. Cookies and local storage

We use a tiny set of first-party cookies and localStorage entries: consent choice, age-gate confirmation, your preferred era, and (for signed-in users) a session token. See our Cookie Policy for details.

5. Third-party services

• Stripe — payment processing for paid subscriptions. Privacy.
• Google MediaPipe — runs entirely in your browser; no data is sent to Google by us.
• Google Fonts — fonts (Cinzel, Inter) are served from Google's CDN. Your IP is visible to Google when fonts load.
• DigitalOcean — our website hosting provider.
• Plausible Analytics — aggregated, cookie-less analytics on the marketing pages.

6. Legal basis (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, our legal basis for processing your data is:

• Contract — to provide the service you asked for (account, subscription, cloud storage).
• Legitimate interests — anonymous analytics, abuse prevention, security logging.
• Consent — non-essential cookies, marketing emails (you can withdraw at any time).

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct or delete it.
• Export it in a portable format.
• Object to processing or withdraw consent.
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@timevlogger.com from the address on your account. We respond within 30 days.

8. Children

Time Traveler Vlog is for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the service, please contact us and we'll delete the data immediately.

9. Retention

• Account data — until you delete your account.
• Cloud-synced recordings — until you delete them, or 30 days after account deletion.
• Server logs — 14 days, then aggregated.
• Anonymous analytics — indefinite, but never re-identifiable.

10. Changes

If we materially change this policy, we'll notify signed-in users by email and post a banner on the site for 30 days. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the most recent revision.
